Drops of Rain

Drops of Rain by Kathryn Andrews

~Read ahead at your own risk, may contain SPOILERS~

The first thing I have to say is a big thank you to Kathryn Andrews for giving me the ARC of "Drops of Rain" to Beta read and for giving me the opportunity to be one of the first to honestly review it

Synopsis:
Ali Rain
Sometimes I think to myself, “How did I get here?” Then the pain hits and I remember…it’s because she’s gone. I now live in a new town, go to a new school, and I’m supposed to be moving on with my new life. Only, I no longer know who I am anymore. Dancing is all I have left and every day I feel completely alone. Silence has become the theme song to my life. She said to find some joy and light, but I don’t know how. Mostly, I feel surrounded in darkness…that is until I meet him.

Drew Hale
I have only one goal, in 298 days I’m going to drive away from this small beach town and never return. People are always watching me closely, too close, and I’m tired of wearing a mask. I need to be free. Swimming is my ticket out of here and I remind myself daily to fly under the radar, stick to my routine, and under no circumstances let anything distract me. I’m not as perfect as they think, most days I am drowning in guilt. I’m not sure I will ever be able to escape the feelings of shame, worthlessness, and just being unwanted…that is until I meet her.

Personal Opinion:

I typically do not read romance novels. I want to say that here and now. There is not usually anything that can surprise me in a romance novel. So usually they bore me to tears because I know that in the end the girl gets the guy and vice versa blah blah blah, nothing that we haven't seen a million times already happens in the middle, they kiss, they make up and everyone ends up happy.

Drops of Rain is not that book and that pleased me and proved this Romance novel naysayer that there are still surprises out there.
 I was a bit confused with the set up of the narration of the book at first, but as with any unique writing style, if the writing is good enough you can get used to it. That was the case here. It was still a good summer read and I look very much forward to reading the next two installments in the Hale Brother Series.

One of my favorite parts of the book was that the characters were relatable. Ali's grief after her mother's death is a very real thing and anyone who knows the pain of losing someone can very much see and feel Ali's pain. If that doesn't make you care for a character I don't know what will.
Drew is hot. Plain and simple. Funny enough he reminded me a lot of my husband while I was reading. The silent brooding type has always been my favorite. I'd also like to applaud Miss Andrews for the way she gave Drew's story such reality. When Drew hurt, I hurt, and not simply because Drew is hot or that I was in love with him, but because of the way Miss Andrews wrote the scenes with such emotion.

Drops of Rain had three of my favorite things in a novel;

  1. It made me care about more than just the main characters.
    I really want to know more about Beau and Matthew.
  2. It made me cry. Pretty much if a book can make me cry you've got yourself a reader for life.

  3. I was reading for hours on end the day I got the ARC. Yes, yes, and more yes.  I love books that make me not want to put them down.

Another thing I enjoyed: Well written semi-smut. I can't stress enough how nice that was.

Favorite Quote:
Could be because I'm super sadistic, but;
"Well, then you should remember this... nutmeg is extremely poisonous if injected intravenously." - Ali Rain

Overall Rating:

8/10
